So another term has begun, another year waiting to be packed with creativity, creative thinking, people and research! With research already underway, I am feeling really excited to be back in a learning environment, filled with anticipation for getting back into the photography studio and taking new photos!
So semester one, 2017 .. here’s to the future!
So . . with less than a week out until the a new study term kicks back in, I have been preparing myself for another year of study. And my last year of study (for now anyway!), as I will be completing the third year of my Bachelor in Arts!
The last few years have been a wonderful experience, being surrounded with great classmates, tutors, and learning! I am anticipating another great semester of photography, being in the studio and working with talented people.
I have had a wonderful and refreshing study break, so I am feeling ready and raring to go! :p
(I will post some pics soon, that I have taken of the beautiful weather I have been enjoying! Check out my Instagram since I’ve popped a few up there already!).
I have been trying hard to publicise my photographs over the holidays, along with doing some freelancing, so keep an eye out for updates of the process as I create and adventure into new concepts and techniques!
I’ve had a few spare moments recently to go through some old photographs and found some from a few fashion shoots. I thought it’s about time to get them out on the web and share them around!
A big thanks to my wonderful model and friend Bethan for being my patient model and assistant! (Here’s to the year ahead of study 😉
Above is a sneak peek at some of the photos, the rest can be found at either of the links below.
I hope to get back into the studio very soon, as I have been on a break for so long . . . I’m ready to launch into a new year of fashion and creativity.

Until next time . . . Stay creative, people!!
Some words of wisdom from Canadian photographer Lisa Bettany as we venture into the year ahead.
Capture the photographs you love, don’t be pressures by the ‘popular’ styles of photography.
Be you, love your own work, lets it speak your story and present a piece of yourself through its viewing.Have fun with your camera, the world you’re photographing, and the adventures you’re living.

As we head into a new year with ideas of how we would like to revolutionise how we live, or with big plans for the months ahead it can be slightly daunting. However it is also filled with a new excitement, a new day equals new opportunities right?
As I head into a new year, and also my last year of my bachelors Degree, it is a little sad yet also extremely exciting, as the projects to follow will be so much better planned and larger (hopefully!) than those I have already experimented and completed. I hope at some point this year to intern with a magazine or news paper as a photographer, or collaborate in similar ways, the more experience I can gain the better!
I have recently been reading a lot of photographers perspectives, advice and insights they have learnt over the years, and some in this last year past, and it has given me a new excitement and passion to push myself further into the unknown and try new projects.
One of these posts was by the amazing Kevin D. Jordan talking about his photography resolutions and plans for the year ahead, I found it really inspiring as I too think about the next steps in the months ahead.
I thought I’d post it here for those who want a look and for me to also come back and read again. (the Link is below)

I took some time out today to walk through the local gardens and smell the roses. So I thought I would share a few (okay maybe more than a few!!), of the photos I took along the way. All photos were taken on a phone camera. Hope you enjoy them 🙂

So I haven’t posted in a while as I have been crashing after an amazing year of learning and creativity! I thought while I have a moment I would upload some photos of my work that was displayed at our end of year exhibition Beyond the Edge.

I am so so thankful for all the support I have received from all my wonderful friends and family, along with my wonderful classmates, I am so blessed to be studying alongside such dedicated and talented people. All the advice, encouragement and teaching from my tutors, from this past year has been invaluable, you’re all such role models, and continually inspire me to reach further and higher than ever before.
(Thank you for all your support also, I could not have achieved what I have this past year without you all.)
As I have mentioned in a prior post; I will continue to blog over the holidays from time to time, as I continually research and grow in my photographic journey, (and may it ever continue!).
To see daily images of my work go have a look at my photography Instagram @rachaelannephotographynz and also regular updates on Facebook Rachael Anne Photography NZ.
I decided to try something a little different in the studio, after being inspired by some photographs online. It was also nice to just try something for the sake of it, without feeling it has to be perfect, so here they are – berries splashing into water.
They aren’t as sharp as I would like, as the synchronized lights I was using couldn’t take the shutter speed required to capture them frozen, rather than with the motion blur, so I will try this again soon, using unsynced lighting.
It is a slightly ironic (to say the least!) that the last post talked about how little I have kept this up to date, and once again I haven’t sorry! This is mostly due to constantly updating my study blog, Facebook and Instagram pages, so I keep forgetting to up load photographs on here too!
And again I will say I plan to keep this up to date, prehaps once a week as a starting point, until I have more time to keep it current!
To get daily updates of my photos, go to my Instagram, Facebook, or my other Blog, where you can also see my research, photography, jewellery making, and artistic processes.
Until next time, live life, and create!
Taking photos of nature is something I love to do, it relaxes me, and is a way I can preserve the precious moments of tranquility surrounded by nature, a breather away from a busy life. While my preferred style of photography is in the studio, it feels great to be out and about exploring wildlife, from long walks in the bush, to breathtaking views of this beautiful world, being able to take photos along the way is a bonus. I plan to make more time for tramping, and so photos will be coming when I do! but until then, here are a few shots from some short walks technically outside the city, but in most of New Zealand, this is usually literally only about five to ten minutes out-of-town! (which is fantastic!).
